Stages of dealing with a Boise State loss

I was stunned.  The majority of the Bronco stadium crowd was too.  A crowd that moments before was perhaps louder than any other crowd I had ever heard was now eerily silenced.  I could not believe it. How was I going to deal with this?

Denial

This doesn’t make sense.  Boise State does not lose on The Blue.  Maybe six years ago, but not this team.  This team is a BCS contender, even a National Championship contender.  They learned from last year, right?  Maybe the field goal was actually good and they will review it.  It had to be good.  Is there a flag on the field?  Seriously we did not just lose this game, not when we were running out the clock.  Why are the TCU players celebrating on our field?  How on earth will Boise State ever recover from this?

The Mtn: Chris Petersen Post Game Interview

Boise State Perspective

Yesterday I was internet-less as my provider was under construction and I was experiencing an intermittent site viewing . Good thing I suppose, as this time allowed for a more realistic perspective. However, I was able to read to read this post on twitter and it encapsulated a great perspective on the outcome of Saturday’s game.

Rearview Mirror: TCU

 Post Game Thoughts

Another game versus TCU and another close hard fought game that was decided in the last few seconds.  This was a difficult game to watch because we are so used to the Broncos defense smothering opponents.  Offensively, the Broncos did not play all that bad as they scored enough points to win (35) as they ran for 126 yards and passed for 320.  However, two lost fumbles really hurt the Broncos, the second one coming when Boise State had the game and the clock well in hand deep in the fourth quarter.  A TCU drive later and a gutsy 2 point call gave TCU the lead.  Defensively, the Broncos were banged up a little at the defensive line and in the secondary, but credit TCU for taking advantage of that.  Continue Reading

Tailgating Bronco Style

Tailgating in the Bronco Stadium lot

You cannot ask for more on a perfect Autumn day.  Crisp weather and a pallet of oranges, yellows, reds, and greens highlight the morning.  It is cold enough to remind you summer is gone, but winter will not arrive until football season is over.  As a Boise State fan, there is no better way to start game day.

Game day is about more than just the game. The whole day is part of the experience, and tailgating is the best part.  It is about family and friends, good food, good drinks, and escaping from the entire outside world to just focus on something we all love:  Boise State football.  It is listening to Paul J on the radio and watching college game day on the T.V. while discussing how the Broncos are going to defend the triple option, and doing it all from a spot normally reserved for parking activities.

Joe Pa looked the other way

It is being reported this morning that Joe Pa will retire at the end of the season. Most likely this would have been the case anyway. This is coaching icon, a legend and a career in College Football that dates back decades. He began his coaching stint at Penn State in 1966. I was four years old when his career at Penn State got underway, a young boy. What we are talking abut the past few days is the end of an era. What we should be talking about are the victims, the numbers could be in the double digits.

To be an icon and the legend at Penn State and to look the other way is unacceptable in my book. Penn State has been revered as an example of what college athletics is all about. Education and athletics have an equal bearing in their program. That is all fine and well in fact that is exceptional on most levels. But, lets get to a level playing field and think about the implications and think about those young boys and how their lives will be impacted.
