Just in Coach Chris Petersen is Tired of the BCS

Chad Cripe of the Idaho Statesman posted this quote from Boise State Head Coach Chris Petersen on Twitter.

A Loss of Cofidence in Gene Bleymair

So why was Gene Bleymaier removed as Boise State Athletic Director? This is the question surrounding the news on August 10th that Bleymaier’s last day as BSU AD would be September 8, 2011. The dismissal comes just 23 days before the 7th ranked Broncos take on the 22nd ranked Georgia Bulldogs in the Chick-fil-a Kick Off Game.

After I heard the news I recalled an article from Brian Murphy titled Credited for Broncos’ success, Gene Bleymaier now at center of complaints, NCAA probe.  From the May 8th, 2011 article are two interesting paragraphs:

Top 5 Reasons Why Joining the MWC is Great for Boise State

Here are my top 5 reasons why I think joining the Mountain West is great for Boise State.

  1. No More trips to Moscow. Even if BSU and Idaho play in the future I would give the chances of playing in the Kibbie Dome a snow ball’s chance in hell.
  2. So long to KTVB and so long to Wednesday Night games. Say what you will about the games being televised on the mtn, CBS College Sports, having 90% games on Saturday the way College Football intended it.
  3. In the immortal words of Freddy Kruger “How sweet, fresh meat” If you were to say the Broncos would never lose a WAC Conference game at home 10 years ago I would have said unlikely. The only real glaring blemish on Boise State’s time in the WAC is its lost last year on the Road to Nevada. Joining the MWC gives BSU a look at new teams, teams that could offer a tougher challenge.
  4. TCU is coming to Boise. The Broncos have played TCU 3 times. One was a win in Fort Worth, One was a Loss in San Diego and one was a win in Glendale. For the first time TCU will head north to take on the Broncos. Despite the controversy surrounding how the game ended up in Boise, I am happy the Broncos were able to get a chance to play the Horned Frogs on the Blue.

How Bronco Nation Can Become a Better Fan Base

The 2010 season has come to a close.  Things didn’t go quite as plan, but the year was certianly full of fun and excitement.  As the program starts to grow and move to the MWC, I believe Bronco Nation needs to become a better fan base.  Here are some of my suggestions to make that happen.

Heading to Moscow, for the Last Time?

This Friday, November 12th, Boise State and the University of Idaho renew the rivalry for possibly the last time in Moscow, Idaho. The continuation of the rivalry took a blow this past summer when Boise State accepted an invitation to join the Mountain West Conference in 2011. In doing so it put the annual game with the Idaho Vandals in jeopardy.

Then out of the blue, Boise State’s President said some not so nice things about the Idaho Vandals, which coupled with Coach Petersen’s desire not to play the game up north as the game does nothing to help the Broncos recruiting wise and travel arrangements are not the best, certainly put the game on life support.

Boise State schedules Michigan State

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State has agreed to a three-game football series with Michigan State, Director of Athletics Gene Bleymaier announced Friday.

The Broncos will open the 2012 season at Michigan State (Aug. 31), and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN.

“This will be another nationally-televised marquee match-up to begin the season,” Bleymaier said. “Michigan State is a premier program and we are excited about playing a Big Ten opponent.”

Boise State opened its 2009 season with a 19-8 victory over No. 16 Oregon, and also defeated No. 6 Virginia Tech (33-30) to open the 2010 season. Both games were televised nationally by ESPN.

The series will continue with Michigan State playing at Bronco Stadium Sept. 17, 2022, and the teams will again meet in East Lansing, Mich., in 2023 (Sept. 16). Boise State will receive a guarantee of $1.2 million for the 2012 game and the schools will exchange $300,000 for the games in 2022 and 2023.

The Spartans are currently ranked No. 5 in all three major polls, and their No. 5 ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings is the highest in school history.

With the agreement, the Broncos will move their game at Oregon State to Sept. 24, 2016. Boise State has also moved its 2012 game against Miami (Ohio) scheduled for Sept. 1, and will now play Sept. 15, 2012.

The Broncos’ nonconference schedule for 2012 is as follows:

Boise State schedules Michigan State

Boise State schedules Michigan State

Aug. 31 at Michigan State
Sept. 15 Miami (Ohio)
Sept. 22 BYU

Back where Kellen belongs

Kellen Moore for Heisman

Kellen Moore for Heisman

Have you seen the recent Heisman Predictions? Kellen Moore is #1 again! Where else would you have a guy whose touchdown to interception ratio is 14-1? He also plays for the #3 team in the Nation, and soon to be released BCS, which will likely have his team #1. These rankings will likely change as BSU enters conference play, but that shouldn’t take away from the facts of what Moore has done so far. He is the best player on the best team at this point in the season. Period.
